Superstar rapper Dave’s Hot Chicken Menu with Prices has decided to celebrate his birthday by giving away free Dave’s Hot Chicken to patrons who visit any location on Oct. 24. No purchase is necessary to enjoy this promotion. Let’s take a look at the details.

Drake Gives Away Dave’s Hot Chicken

A press release announcement revealed that Drake, an international music icon and major investor in the fast-food chain, will be giving away free Dave’s Hot Chicken sliders to everyone on Oct. 24 in honor of his birthday, according to a statement.

Anyone who visits their neighborhood Dave’s and scans the reward in the Dave’s Hot Chicken app will receive the hook-up.

Every Dave’s Hot Chicken is celebrating Oct. 24 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. local time. This event is only accessible in person; it cannot be ordered online or delivered by outside providers.

“We love that Drake is choosing to celebrate his birthday with Dave’s guests,” said Bill Phelps, Dave’s Hot Chicken’s CEO, in a statement accompanying the press release. “As this brand expands from coast-to-coast and abroad, it’s the authenticity of the food, founders, team members, and investors, like Drake, which ensure we’ll continue to blow peoples’ minds.”

With folding tables and portable fryers in tow, three boyhood friends — Chef Dave Kopushyan, Arman Oganesyan, and Tommy Rubenyan — scrambled together $900 to open Dave’s Hot Chicken in a parking lot in 2017 — a modern-day American dream come true. With assistance from Tommy’s brother Gary, Dave’s Hot Chicken gained rapid traction and soon opened a physical location in East Hollywood. In 2019, the team agreed with Bill Phelps, the former CEO and co-founder of Wetzel’s Pretzels, to start franchising the Dave’s Hot Chicken idea. Drake, named Billboard’s Artist of the Decade, also invested in the business.

The business will open more than 80 stores this year after selling the rights to over 1,000 franchise locations in the U.S., the Middle East, and Canada.

Not the Only Celebrity

Drake is not the only celebrity who has gotten involved in the Dave’s Hot Chicken craze. Conyers, a suburb of Atlanta, hosted the grand opening of the expanding chain’s first Georgia location over the summer.

Entertainment icon Usher, who recently completed his wildly successful Las Vegas residency, partnered with Andrew Feghali and Lawrence Kourie, two of the longest-tenured Dave’s Hot Chicken franchisees, to open the restaurant.

Fans and anyone else seeking fantastic entertainment were treated to a feast of fried chicken and spice in celebration of the restaurant’s grand launch at 1447 Hwy 138 SE. Leading drone show specialists SkyElements helped celebrate Dave’s Georgia opening on Thursday, Aug. 29, at approximately 9 p.m., with an amazing drone show that communicated the company’s story in a big and engaging way.

“Once I tried Dave’s Hot Chicken and spoke with the founders of the brand, I knew I wanted to be involved with the company. I’m excited to open Atlanta’s first Dave’s Hot Chicken and look forward to everyone from my hometown trying it,” said Usher, in a statement furnished to RetailWire.

“Dave’s Hot Chicken continues to gain traction from coast-to-coast, from our passionate guests to international superstars,” said the company’s CEO, Bill Phelps. “Our focus remains on making the most craveable, hottest and juiciest hot chicken on the planet, and we’re thrilled to partner with Usher to bring Dave’s to Georgia.”

Drake, who was named Artist of the Decade by Billboard, has long been a significant investor in the business, though this is Usher’s first investment..

Gregg Majewski chats with Jim Bitticks, President of Dave’s Hot Chicken, to discuss the rapid rise of one of the fastest-growing restaurant franchises in the U.S.

On the latest episode of Room for Seconds, host Gregg Majewski sat down with Jim Bitticks, President & COO of Dave’s Hot Chicken, to discuss the rapid rise of one of the fastest-growing restaurant franchises in the U.S. From humble beginnings as a parking lot pop-up to over 270 locations and counting, Jim shares the strategies, challenges, and bold moves that have fueled Dave’s explosive growth.

Build the Right Team from Day One

Scaling fast requires top-tier leadership from the start. Instead of hiring up-and-comers and growing them into leadership roles, Dave’s Hot Chicken brought in experienced executives early—a strategy that’s paid off.

“We started with the bigger name, more experienced people, and that has been a huge driver of the success.” – Jim Bitticks

By surrounding the brand with franchise veterans and industry leaders, they ensured consistent execution and avoided the growing pains many startups face.

The Secret to Franchisee Selection

Dave’s Hot Chicken doesn’t just sell franchises to anyone—they carefully vet operators based on experience and market knowledge.

“We chose only franchisees that have multiple brands under their belt or in their portfolio and have done it for a long time with multiple units.” – Jim Bitticks

This strategic approach ensures that operators already understand brand compliance, scaling, and operational excellence, reducing risk and accelerating growth.

Bold Marketing Moves Make a Big Impact

Early on, Dave’s Hot Chicken made a high-stakes decision to invest heavily in advertising—even before the brand had the budget to fully support it. Instead of waiting for their ad fund to grow, they took an aggressive approach, believing that early exposure would drive long-term success.
By deficit spending on creative and media buys, Dave’s was able to secure prime visibility, generate massive consumer interest, and ultimately boost franchisee confidence in the brand’s marketing power. This strategic risk paid off, positioning Dave’s Hot Chicken as a must-visit destination in new markets.
“We didn’t have the money in the ad fund, we just spent it. And that really, really worked.” – Jim Bitticks

Bitticks started in the restaurant industry as a teenager and climbed the ranks at CKE Restaurants to become vice president of operations in the San Diego market. He joined Blaze Pizza in 2013 to lead operations and training and later became chief restaurant officer to help that concept grow from two to more than 350 locations.

Bitticks joined Dave’s Hot Chicken as COO in July 2020 and has helped build systems and processes to enable Dave’s Hot Chicken to scale at a rapid pace.
